Thanksgiving Tips

Hello Friends!

The long awaited Thanksgiving day full of delicious foods and time with friends and family is almost here! And while amazing food is a huge part of this holiday, it doesnt have to be the end of all your hard work. This year, plan ahead with these simple tips, and always remember, its the people and the memories that make this day special, not your portion size!

  • Take a glass of water in addition to your holiday drink, and drink the whole glass!
  • Choose your favorite part of Thanksgiving (i.e. dessert, main course, appetizer, drinks) to be your holiday treat...enjoy it guilt free! Cut back on the other foods to enjoy your favorites
  • Exercise the morning of Thanksgiving, and more importantly, the day after. Dont let you exercise habits go, you've worked too hard!
  • Encourage the family to take a post-Turkey walk, even a twenty minute stroll has been proven to aid digestion.
  • Be careful not to over do the alcohol, keep well hydrated to keep your digestive system happy!
  • Don't be fooled by the greens! As much as vegetables are wonderful, most holiday veggies are swimming in butter...enjoy, but think of them as less healthy than usual.
  • Think about chewing slowly, savor the moment, remember to taste all the wonderful flavors, take your time!
  • Thanksgiving is only once a year, so most importantly, HAVE FUN!

Yummy Yams and Carrot Soup

Bet you never thought that vegetables could taste so rich and creamy. But that was before coconut milk and yams married and had curried carrots as children. One happy family dish!
Simmer for two minutes:

  • 1/2 tsp yellow curry powder or mild chili powder
  • 2 T olive oil
  • 1/2 yellow onion chopped
  • 1/2 inch cube fresh ginger minced
Add:

  • 1 yam chopped
  • 1 cup carrots chopped
  • 3 cups of low sodium vegetable broth
